Webkms / AI Receptionist

AI agents for law firms

Every call answered. Every new matter routed to the right lawyer.

An AI intake agent that picks up on the first ring, works out who is calling and why, captures the matter, and sends it to the lawyer or partner who handles it — with a transcript your team can review before calling back.

  • Free 7-day demo on a real number — no card
  • Never gives legal advice or quotes fees
  • Matches callers to your lawyers by practice area
  • Summary and transcript after every call

The client who calls at 6:15 pm hires whoever answers.

After hours

New clients call in the evening and at weekends, when nobody is at the front desk.

First to answer

Someone with a new matter often calls several firms. The one that answers usually gets the consultation.

Right lawyer, first time

No more forwarding emails around the office to find out who handles a slip-and-fall.

Call classification

It knows who is calling before it takes a message

Every call is classified first, then handled with the script that fits it.

Potential new client

Full intake, conflict-check names, deadline check, then matched to the lawyer who handles that practice area.

Existing client

Takes a message for their lawyer by name, never discusses the file, and flags anything time-sensitive.

Court, opposing counsel or another lawyer

Captures who is calling, on which matter and the callback details, and sends it straight to the responsible lawyer.

Vendors, solicitors and spam

Politely declines and ends the call, so your lawyers only hear about calls that matter.

Dispatch between lawyers and partners

From ringing phone to the right lawyer’s inbox

The agent prepares the intake, chooses the lawyer and emails them the call. Your partners stay in control: the firm gets a copy of every call and can pass any lead to another lawyer.

  1. 1

    Answers every call

Day, night and weekends, in a natural voice with your firm name. No hold music, no voicemail.

  2. 2

    Classifies and runs intake

Works out who is calling and why, then asks your intake questions one at a time.

  3. 3

    Chooses the right lawyer

Matches the matter to your list of lawyers and partners by practice area, and names them in the summary.

  4. 4

    Delivers the lead

The assigned lawyer gets an email with the summary, the caller’s number and the full transcript, and your firm gets a copy.

  5. 5

    Stay in control

Every email names who the call went to and why, so a partner can hand it to someone else. One-click reassignment in the agent portal is coming to managed plans.

Example call summary

Agent portal

One place for every call, lead and lawyer

On managed plans your firm signs in to the Webkms agent portal to see what the agent handled.

Your lawyer roster

Every lawyer and partner with their practice areas, so the AI knows who handles what.

Every call and lead

Caller, matter type, deadline, assigned lawyer and status on one screen.

Manual or AI dispatch

Coming to managed plans: keep the AI’s choice, reassign a lead to a colleague, or send it to intake for review.

Transcripts and recordings

Read or listen to any call, so a lawyer can review exactly what was said before calling back.

Deadlines first

Callers with a court date or limitation deadline are flagged for a same-day callback.

Usage and billing

Calls, minutes and monthly totals per agent, with nothing hidden.

Privacy and confidentiality

Built for attorney-client confidentiality

A law-firm agent has stricter rules than any other receptionist we build. These are on by default in every law-firm agent, on top of any rules your firm adds.

  • Never gives legal advice, an opinion on the merits of a case, or a fee quote beyond what your firm approves
  • Asks for a one-sentence description of the matter only — never the full story or documents on the call
  • Tells every potential new client that the call does not create an attorney-client relationship
  • Never confirms whether someone is a client and never repeats one caller’s details to another
  • Collects the names of other parties so your team can run a conflict check before calling back
  • Recordings and transcripts are stored privately and are only visible to your firm’s users in the agent portal
  • Passwordless sign-in to the portal (Google or a one-time email code), and each firm can only see its own calls
  • Callers describing an emergency are told to hang up and call 911

Best practice

Using AI intake responsibly

Bar guidance on AI, including the ABA’s Formal Opinion 512, comes down to confidentiality, supervision and competence. Here is how firms put that into practice with an AI receptionist.

Supervise it like staff

Treat the agent like a non-lawyer assistant: a named lawyer owns its script, reviews call summaries and signs off on changes.

Keep intake minimal

Collect what you need to call back and check conflicts — not the facts of the case. Privileged detail belongs in a conversation with a lawyer.

Disclose the recording

Several states require every party to consent to a recorded call. Add a short recording notice to the greeting if you record.

Say it is not advice

A one-line disclaimer at the end of every new-client call avoids any suggestion that the firm has taken the matter.

Route by practice area

Give the agent a clear roster so every lead reaches the lawyer who will actually take it, with a fallback to intake.

Review the transcripts

Read a sample of calls each week in the first month and tune the script; that is how the best firms get to near-zero missed leads.

This page is general information, not legal advice. Check your state bar’s rules on AI, advertising and call recording.

Questions law firms ask

Will the AI give legal advice to callers?

No. It is instructed never to give legal advice, never to comment on whether someone has a case, and never to quote fees beyond what your firm tells it to say. Those questions are passed to a lawyer.

How does it know which lawyer should get the call?

You give it your lawyers and partners with the practice areas each one handles. The agent matches the caller’s matter to that roster, names the lawyer in the call summary, and existing clients who name their lawyer go straight to them. If nothing fits, it goes to your intake contact.

Can a partner change who a lead goes to?

Yes. Every call summary names the lawyer the agent chose and why, and your firm gets a copy, so a partner can pass it to someone else. On managed plans we set up live transfer, so urgent callers can be put straight through, and one-click reassignment in the agent portal is on the way.

Is caller information kept confidential?

Yes. The agent never repeats a caller’s details to anyone else, collects only what is needed for intake, and recordings and transcripts are stored privately and shown only to your firm’s portal users.

What does the free demo include?

A real phone number answered by your firm’s agent for 7 days or 25 answered calls, trained on your website and your lawyer roster, with an email summary after every call. No card is needed.

What does it cost after the demo?

Self-serve is $0.90 per answered call, billed monthly, with no contract. Managed plans, where we set up routing, live transfer and the agent portal for your whole firm, start at $59/month.
